The Sure-Fire Formula to Exploding Sales

There is no time like the present to decide what you want your business to look like. Look at what you have in your business now. If you don’t like what you see, you can change it. If you want to improve, you can do so without struggle. And if you want to achieve bigger goals, you can do it.

It starts by stepping outside your business, looking at how you’ve been conducting business, and then creating a new vision of what you want your business to be. You can accomplish much more when you have a clear and concise sales plan.

Let me share a story about my client, Ann. She’s the owner of a growing tile business. Ann came to me because she wasn’t closing enough sales—she was overwhelmed with the details of running a business. Instead of running her business, she felt as though her business was running her. Her lack of focus and direction was hindering her productivity and slowing down her sales growth.

Ann had big dreams for growing her business. She wanted to design a brochure, build a website, and sign on more clients. However, all the details that arise for solopreneurs can often push our dreams into the realm of “maybe someday.” So early in the coaching relationship, Ann and I created a detailed plan of everything that she wanted to accomplish.

We started with Ann creating a clear vision of what she wanted her business to look like. I had her answer these questions, “What is it I really want to do? Am I doing the work I really love or am I doing what others expect of me?” In order to create her vision, she needed to put her business owner hat on, step back, and see the whole picture. It’s not uncommon to get caught up in the “doing” of our business and lose sight of seeing a bigger picture, including all of our dreams and goals.

She then listed and clarified all her goals and indicated next to each goal the date to reach the goal. We then defined action steps for each goal, with a due date next to each action step. We looked at all of the steps and we listed, by priority, which steps she needed to tackle first. Creating due dates for her goals and action steps, gave Ann a clear and specific plan by when they would be accomplished.

Immediately, Ann felt energized and excited. Finally, she was focused and had gained clarity. She was able to envision each of the steps on the way to each of her goals. With her new plan in place, Ann completed her brochure, implemented her new website, and actively began pursuing new clients. She felt a sense of accomplishment seeing all the projects she’d been working on for several years finally being completed. Ann is now running her business with confidence, guided by a clear vision of what she needs to do going forward. By anchoring herself and grounding herself, she became the image of success she’d dreamed of.

I’m sure many of you can relate to Ann’s story. You’re strong in certain areas, but in other areas you’re totally overwhelmed with all the things involved in running a business. When you create a clear, specific plan and stick to it, you cease to be overwhelmed and make tremendous strides towards realizing your vision.
The wonderful thing about having a plan is gaining a sense of control over the direction of your business and life. With a plan, you steer your business in the direction you want it to go. You are no longer caught up in the details of the day-to-day work.

Here are 9 simple steps to create your own comprehensive plan towards achieving your sales success:
  1. Create your vision: Take a good look at your business. Maybe it’s time to change your vision. Are you doing what you really want to do? What is it you want to accomplish? What is it you provide? When you begin to answer these questions, you’re creating a clear vision of what you want to accomplish.
  2. See the whole picture: Much too often, we are caught up in the every day details of our business rather than seeing the whole picture. Make the time to step back from the “doing” and see the whole picture of what you want to achieve.
  3. Clarify your goals: Goals are the pathway to getting to where you want to take your business. Make a list of all the goals you want to accomplish and ensure they relate to your business.
  4. Clear and specific goals: As you write your goals, are they as clear and specific as possible? This means projecting sales revenue numbers, percentages, number of new clients, etc.
  5. Action steps: To fulfill each of your goals, there must be an action step connected to the goal. The action step is the “doing” part of your plan. Without taking action, the goal is just a good idea.
  6. Due dates: To ensure you reach your goal sooner than later, list a due date to reach your goal and do the same for each action step. This eliminates procrastination because you’re committing to a deadline to reach your goal.
  7. Prioritize: Take a good look at each goal and list the goals that matter most first. Prioritize the top 3 goals as “A” goals. This means you want to achieve these goals in the next 90 days.
  8. Just do it: Now that you’ve created a plan, it’s time to work your plan. Do what you said you would do, when you said you would do it. As Nike says, “Just do it!” 97% of people write goals and never take action. If you want this to be your best year ever, be in the 3% who take action and reach their goals!
  9. Persevere: Do not allow anything to get in the way of fulfilling your plan and reaching your goals. No matter what life throws at you, keep your eye on your plan and persevere.

Divine Delays Work in Your Favor!

For the most part, we are all taught how to pray. And now we have all been taught about visualizing and treasure mapping etc.  Sometimes we feel like we have done it all, yet it seems that our prayers are taking a long time to come through or going unanswered. This can feel very disheartening. But it actually is not meant to be.

What seems like a no, is in many cases a “Divine Delay”. A Divine Delay is what I refer to as a “lag time” between our request and when it comes into our physical existence. If you have taken ALL of the inspired action that you have been presented with and you feel that you are still not getting the results, this is usually when there is something that needs to be configured energetically or circumstantially in order for you to have the “BEST” possible outcome.

Even if you can’t see a result yet, it does not mean that nothing is happening!

Like the roots of a tree, your Divine Plan can grow in the darkness as well as in the light. And it is extremely important to have a deep strong root system, so that when your tree blossoms it bears lots of fruit!

We are a society of instant gratification. I am often amazed at how people come to me and want me to give them absolute commitment that something they desire will come true, complete with dates and times and how and details. It always concerns me because I have no control over what will happen. I certainly can intuitively feel a potential outcome based on all things staying the same, but what is most important is that YOU have the POWER to make it happen! Not me!

The more light, (which is concentrating positive energy and focus on the outcomes that you truly want), that you can turn on in your life, the quicker the darkness moves away and the sooner you can manifest things into the physical. Never fight the darkness, growth is taking place…let it.

In the Meantime try these things:

    * Use slow periods for study, classes, coaching, affirming and praying often.
    * Dwell upon the wisdom that you are receiving and let it integrate by testing it out in real life circumstances.
    * Go out and act as if it is already manifesting, test drive the car, go house hunting, window shop.
    * Get out in nature and be THANKFUL for everything that you see and experience. Gratitude is the sure fire way to shorten a Divine Delay!

And remember, when it comes to manifesting sometimes no news is good news!

Do not dismay, this is just a Divine Delay!

When you start your own business, there are many different concerns that you might have as a professional and as a woman.

The needs of your business are unique from others. You may even need to consider labor.

1. Anticipate the Best

There is a saying, "hope for the best, plan for the worst."

It's human nature to worry, but did you know that 90% of what we worry, fret and get bothered about  does not happen. That's a lot of energy spent on negativity. Instead try to assume that things will work out, everything will be ok. Start expecting positive results and witness the positive changes you create around you.


2. Create a "What Went Right Today" list

Its easy to critique, complain and find fault but have you ever asked yourself the question, "What went right today?" Take today for instance, you woke up, you have clean running water, hydro is working - after all you are reading this newsletter on your computer, you had a meal to eat. Creating a 'what went right today ' list will change your perspective of life as you realize a lot of good things- even great things happen in your life every day!

3. Think C-A-L-M

The word "calm" not only means a peaceful state of  mind. People who are calm have a quiet confidence, they appear unshakeable in the midst of turmoil, and they don't' sweat the small stuff. Here is a powerful acronym for C-A-L-M

C- is for  Centered
A- is for Alive and Attentive. Be joyful for being alive
L- is for Light-Hearted. Laugh, Forgive, Don't be too serious.
M- is for Magical. Life is  Gift- cherish and treasure every day.

Are You Suffocating?

When I’m not connected to what my heart pulls me to do, I literally feel like I’m suffocating. I’m not one of those people who’s great at faking it ‘til you make it. When you talk to me or see me, you pretty much know I’m feelin’ it (and I’m happy) or I’m not. There’s not really a gray area here. And what’s very interesting to me right now is that I see a lot of people out there feeling the exact same way.

It’s so important for entrepreneurs like us to check-in and do what we love. If you aren’t enjoying what you’re doing right now, it’s usually time to move on. Part of the reason I stopped planning weddings as my primary business is that my heart was no longer in it and I could not bear to put a smiley face on a restless, unhappy part of me.

So, if your business or parts of your life just aren’t working for you any more, make a drastic change. The last few months, I’ve felt many times like I’m suffocating again, and couldn’t figure out what the problem was. On the surface, everything was perfect in business and at home. But beneath the surface it was like a violent storm, and I knew it was a matter of time before it came to the surface.

When this happens, I suggest journaling a lot, being quiet, meditating, going for walks, and embracing your creative side. It helps you reconnect with what’s really going on. A lot of times when you can’t even figure out what it is that you actually want it’s because we’re lying to ourselves so much that we don’t even know what our truth is any more. So you must break through whatever those barriers are that are holding you back.

Be weird. Take a risk. I’ve never been what you’d call “normal”. Honestly, what does that even mean? Maybe none of us are “normal,” but so many of us have bought into the “American dream” or whatever the dream is where you live right now that we think it’s what we want, and then wonder why we don’t appreciate anything we have right now. But if you feel like you’re suffocating and feel handcuffed to a life that you don’t even want, change it. (That’s what we’re doing right now.)

And when you change this, the interesting part is that you’re ALWAYS “rewarded” for being authentic to yourself. Once Edward and I realized (and every time in the past when we evaluated) what was off, we knew the decision would be hard to make. Not because it’s not what we wanted or that it would require a lot of work on our part, but simply because the people around us wouldn’t get it because it’s not what they want for us. But it’s worth it even it it’s hard because you must understand that true success ONLY comes when you are truthful with yourself and what you really desire.

So I actually challenge you to go for what you want even if it seems like the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard. What we desire doesn’t always make sense. But that’s okay. Follow your heart – and like Shakespeare says – “This above all, to thine own self be true.”

How to Program Your Mind to Attact What You Want

We all aspire to be, do and have great things. Yet most of us simply aren’t creating the results we want. We don’t have enough money, romance, success or joy in our lives. But what we need to understand is that greatness exists in all of us. It is simply up to us to pull it out of ourselves. We all have genius. We just need to learn how to apply it.

Decide What You Want
In order to get what you want, you must first decide what you want. Most people really foul up at this crucial first step because they simply can’t see how it’s possible to get what they want — so they don’t even let themselves want it.

Don’t sabotage yourself that way!

What scientists now know about how the brain works is that you must first decide WHAT you want, before your brain can figure out HOW to get it. Once you lock-in your desires, your mind and the universe can step in.

Are you ready to get started?

Be Willing to Dream Big Dreams
As soon as you commit to a big dream and really go after it, your subconscious creative mind will come up with big ideas to make it happen. You’ll start attracting the people, resources, and opportunities you need into your life to make your dream come true. Big dreams not only inspire you, they compel others to want to play big, too.

Set Goals That Will Stretch You
Another value in giving yourself permission to go after the big dreams is that big dreams require you to grow in order to achieve them. In fact, in the long run, that is the greatest benefit you will receive from pursuing your dreams — not so much the outer trappings of fulfilling the dream (an expensive car, impressive house, loads of money and philanthropic opportunities), but who you become in the process.

As I’ve seen many times over, the outer symbols of success, can all be easily lost. Houses burn down, companies go bankrupt, relationships end in divorce, cars get old, bodies age and fame wanes, but who you are, what you have learned and the new skills you have developed never go away. These are the true prizes of success. Motivational philosopher, Jim Rohn advises that “You should set a goal big enough that in the process of achieving it, you become someone worth becoming.”

Service to Others
Something else you’ll discover is that when your dreams include service to others — accomplishing something that contributes to others — it also accelerates the accomplishment of that goal. People want to be part of something that contributes and makes a difference.

Turn Your Dreams into Goals and Objectives
Once you are clear about what you want, you must turn each item into a measurable objective. By measurable, I mean measurable in space and time — how much and by when. For instance, if you were to tell me that you wanted more money, I might pull out a dollar and give it to you, but you would probably protest, saying “No, I meant a lot more money — like $20,000!” Well, how am I supposed to know unless you tell me? Similarly, your boss, your friends, your spouse, your brain — God, the Universe — can’t figure out what you want unless you tell them specifically what it is. What do you want — exactly — and when do you want it by?

Write Your Goals Down
Write your goals down in detail, and read your list of goals every day. This will keep your subconscious mind focused on what you want. For an even more powerful approach, close your eyes and focus on each goal and ask yourself, "What is one thing I could do today to move toward the achievement of this goal?" Write down your answers and take those actions.

To help your reticular activating system begin finding YOUR wants in unexpected places, take time now to decide what you want and start writing!

Smart Women Use Speaking to Grow Their Business

A few weeks ago, I took some time to evaluate where most of my clients come from and the two areas where I consistently receive highly qualified clients are referrals from happy clients and public speaking. It’s essential that you spend your valuable time doing the things that consistently bring you the clients that you love to work with. This week, I’m going to focus on public speaking as I get many questions from Smart Women on this topic.

Speaking to your target market is a wonderful way to reach more people in a short period of time and get your message out about how your product or service can help them. It works well because your target audience can get to know you on a more personal level and get a feel for your style and personality.

You may be reading this and thinking, “I’ve never done any public speaking and I’m not feeling very confident about it.” I understand completely. I started speaking 15 years ago because I had a mentor at the time who insisted this was a great way for me to grow my business. It was not by choice and I tried (unsuccessfully) numerous times to avoid the process. I remember my first speaking engagement. I had purchased a $300 silk suit to wear for the occasion. I was so nervous that I was sweating the entire time. By the end of the presentation, I was soaked! The suit was ruined. I sent it to the dry cleaners but it could not be saved. After that first presentation, little by little, I became a better speaker and more confident in my ability.

If you’ve been thinking that speaking is a tool that could help you grow your business and get your message out, you should take the leap and go for it. Here are some tips and solutions that will help make the process a lot easier:

1. Choose a Topic – Pick a topic where you have expert knowledge. Think about a problem or challenge that you solve for your clients. Create a presentation around this and include 3-5 main points that will be benefit your audience.

2. Use the KISS Principle – Divide your talk into 3 main areas. The beginning is your introduction where you create a desire for the audience to listen to you by sharing your level of expertise. Don’t forget to share your vulnerability as well. People love hearing that you’re not perfect and you’ve made mistakes too! The middle is the 3-5 main points you want to share on your topic. The ending is where you let them know how they can get more information and how they can work with you.

3. Offer a Free Gift – Ask everyone to fill out a form with their name and email address. Put the forms into a basket and have the host pull out some lucky winners for a free gift. For example, it could be a free session with you, a free book or e-book. People love free gifts! Let the audience know that they will hear from you in the future about special offers or new products and services. This is an excellent list building tool. (I see many speakers forgetting this step and it’s one of the most important!)

4. Give Them Something to Buy – If you have a table at the event (many events offer a table to speakers at little or no extra charge) have your products and brochures, with descriptions about your service, available. After you finish speaking, get back to your table as quickly as possible so that people who are interested in asking questions or interacting with you can approach you easily.

5. Follow-Up After the Event – After the event is over, make sure you follow-up with the event host and find out how they felt about your presentation. This is an excellent way to learn what went well and if there are some areas for improvement. Be sure to ask the host for a testimonial about your speaking. This is an invaluable tool to have on your web site media page and marketing materials.

You can start with a small group (5-10 people) and move on to larger audiences along the way. Over the last 15 years, I’ve spoken to groups of people that had an audience of 5 people as well as groups of up to 750 people. The number isn’t what’s important. They key is to inspire a few people who identify with you and want to work with you to help solve their problem or challenge. Speaking has made a tremendous difference in my business. It can make a difference in your business too.

Dana Precious
Dana Precious was born and, for the most part, raised in Michigan. She is the youngest of five siblings. In her early years her father sought something bigger and more exciting than life as a city manager. Hence, her family wound up in Mogadishu, Somalia. They didn’t know that it was one of the most volatile countries on the face of the earth. As her mother put it “Well, the Encyclopedia Britannica didn’t mention anything about that.” This was, of course, way before information was available on the internet. It didn’t take long for her family to make its way back to Michigan.

There, in the small town of N. Muskegon, her family became known for doing things with only the best of intentions but with unexpected outcomes.  Her father on a whim bought a dinner dance cruise ship, The Port City Princess, that is still in operation today.

To fend off the general chaos that swirled around her, Dana began reading voraciously.  Then she began writing.  After graduating college and with little idea of what she should do with her life Dana moved to Los Angeles.  Two of her sisters lived there giving her a safety net.

After her first day as a receptionist at an advertising agency, her boss asked her if anyone had called. “Oh yes, lots of people.” She responded. “Did you write down any messages?” Her boss asked.  Write it down? She was supposed to write it down? Realizing she wasn’t going to last long as a receptionist, Dana started listening in on the direction given to the copywriters at the agency.  This, she turned out to be good at and her first career as a copywriter was born.

Eventually she was hired at a major film studio in the theatrical creative advertising department. Dana became responsible for the advertising and marketing of blockbuster tent-pole films.  She has been working in this field for most of her adult life.

The novel, "Born Under A Lucky Moon," had been kicking around in her head for years. Finally she got busy and got it written. Her family forgives her for any resemblance to her actual life while growing up.
Currently Dana lives with her husband, son and two dogs in Los Angeles.

"Born Under a Lucky Moon" is a real life events tale recounting the story of two very important years in the lives of Jeannie Thompson and her colorful family members to whom "things" just seem to happen.

Set in 1986, the story straddles back and forth from the Great Lakes of Michigan to Los Angeles, California.  It is a story of surprise marriages, a renegade granny, a sprinkler system cursed by the gods, and myriad other factors Jeannie blames for her full-tilt, out-of-control existence.  But it's also about good surprises—like an unexpected proposal that might just open Jeannie's eyes to her real place, among the people she loves most in the world.

As the author explains, it was very important for her to write “a warm comedy that understood that families are complicated but that they still love each other deeply.  I wanted to make readers feel good and laugh.”
