How to Use Your Smartphone to Make Videos That Get You Clients

Creating a marketing video for your business used to mean booking time with a professional studio and paying a hefty price tag. Now you can do many of the same things using your own smartphone. Whether you have an iOS or Android device, you can use your smartphone or tablet as your personal video studio to craft content that speaks to your target audience.

But in order to get started, you need the right apps. There are several video recording apps to choose from for your smartphone. Here are a few of your best options.

For iOS Devices:

•     iMovie records HD videos right from your iPhone or iPad. You can even create theatrical trailers for your marketing videos if you want to get a little creative.

•     Pixorial has a free and premium version for you to try. The app shoots video, lets you edit it on your device and then upload it directly to YouTube and social sites.

•     Splice is an advanced video recorder and editor. After making your recording, you can add in special effects and music using your device. Like other iOS apps, this all in one video suite also lets you upload to social sites.

For Android Devices:

•     Camera ICS is an improvement on the existing Android camera that comes standard with Android Ice Cream Sandwich (version 4.0). It takes both still pictures and videos and has several different quality settings.

•     VidTrim Pro is great for editing your videos directly from your Android device. You can view your recorded video, trim video clips and share your clips to YouTube, Facebook and more.

•     Qik Video has several different versions for specific Android devices (like Sprint) so it’s customized to work with your device. In addition to recording videos, you can also use it to send video emails to your contacts.

Once you’ve loaded up your device with the right app, what should you do with it? There are three popular types of video that you can easily create:

1.     Informative tutorials - Your ideal clients want actionable information that they can put to use right away. If you have a demonstration of what you do, or just a few helpful tips, you can create an informative tutorial. Walk your audience through the step-by-step process of fixing one of their big problems, and they’ll be ready to buy what you have to offer. Be sure to include a specific call to action for how they can get more from you (either paid or free information.)

2.     Q and A videos - What are the most frequently asked questions that you get about your business or about your services? Make a list and then spend an afternoon recording the answers to those questions, one video at a time. Not only does it make for great content but it also answers any objections your clients might have before they start working with you. Again, don't forget to include a clear call to action so the viewer knows what to do next to get access to the solutions you offer.

3.     Soapbox statements - Is there something about your industry that you feel really impassioned to speak about? Do you have a unique point of view that will help your ideal clients make a connection with you? Try creating a soapbox statement video! Use your video to make a case from your point of view and help your audience understand your professional expertise. Direct the view back to your blog so they can share their thoughts about your statement.

Now that you’ve got the apps and the ideas, there’s no excuse! Make videos a part of your regular online marketing routine and you’ll be able to connect with your audience in ways you never thought possible.

This will significantly increase the all-important "know, like and trust" factor that gets more clients in the door and more profits in your bank account.

Creative Cashflow Tip: Think Outside the Transactions

When it comes to making money, many solo business owners think only in terms of the transaction. What does that mean? Well, here’s how a transaction-focused business works:

You put lots of effort into selling your thing. Someone hires you or books you.  Yay, you got the sale! (Or the date, or the client.) You fulfill the sale. Then, it’s over.

Now you gotta go out and get another one.

This is all well and good.  (And like I said, it’s how many people run their business.)

But there’s a problem here.

When your business relies on transactions alone, it’s a lot more effort.  You work constantly to find the buyer, market to the buyer, sell to the buyer, fulfill the sale – and then start all over again.  It’s a lot of energy.

Even if you master this model – (most people don’t) – you’ll eventually run out of hours in the day to fulfill each of these sales – or to keep finding new transactions. Which is why so many business owners are so freakin’ tired. In fact, the enemy of the Upleveled business is the transaction.  (Or at least, the transaction mindset.)

So, it doesn’t matter if you’re a realtor, a coach, a wedding photographer, a graphic designer, a speaker or a candlestick maker… if you want a consistently successful business, you have to become what I can an “Anti-Transactionist.”

An Anti-Transactionist lives from this philosophy:

When you get a sale, you don’t get a sale. You get a customer.  Huge difference. An Anti-Transactionist does one key thing differently from exhausted business owners…

She sets up systems so that one transaction naturally flows into other transactions. She still makes transactions. But that’s never the end point.

How do you do this?

Well, first, you have to start by doing what most solo business owners never do…

You have to create the space to get strategic about how money comes in to your business. Next, you have to implement the ideas you generate. Use some of these action steps to get you going:

1 - Sell packages, not hours.

This one thing alone will change your entire business.

Rather than make an appointment here and an appointment there, charging dollars for hours – create packages so that you’re not waiting for clients to schedule their next transaction with you. It makes your life (and theirs) much easier.

2 – Create impeccable follow up systems…

Some business models don’t allow for packages. That’s okay.  Then, you must create systems to follow up, reschedule and stay in constant touch with your clients.  (You can do this with packages as well!)  Dick Benson said: “It’s three times easier to get a second sale from an existing customer than a first time sale from a non-customer.”  So true.

3 – Create referral systems

Referrals are not just little mysterious blessings that happen by chance.  Every customer you work with is connected to hundreds of other people. Learn how to engineer referrals to extend transactions infinitely and effortlessly.

4 – Always know the very next step.

When you fulfill a transaction – whether it’s a speaking gig, a corporate training, a seminar, writing your book – always think in terms of the VERY NEXT STEP.  What is the next step the prospect or client can take?  Once you know this, you can set up each transaction to lead naturally into that next step.

So, if you’re flying around the country doing speaking gigs – and each one of those gigs is the end of the line for the money flow – then you’re a Transactionist.

However, if you engineer a next step where audience members can sign up a VIP session with you – then you become an “Anti-Transactionist.”  You’ve added a “Next Step” that turns your transaction into a lead generator and extended cashflow.

5 – Educate your clients.

“My clients don’t know they need what I do beyond a single transaction.”

“My customers think it’s all about just picking my brain for a single session.”

“My clients just want a quick fix.”

If you ever say anything like this, then guess what?  The burden is on you to educate your clients how you can help them further.  And no, this doesn’t mean you create a brochure called “How I can Help You Further.”  It means you become a marketer and creatively educate your clients by dispelling their doubts, overcoming their objections and addressing their challenges.

Yes, these steps take focus, strategy and work on your part. But when you do them, your cashflow will become more effortless. I promise!

3 Power Moves to Step Up Your Game

Has someone ever told you they were getting ready to step up their game? Or maybe you've said it yourself. But what does this really mean? Well, UrbanDictionary.com defines it as "improving your skills or talents".

And in this day and age, it's absolutely necessary for those who want to achieve big goals to take it up a notch.

The inspiration to step up your game typically happens when you get encouraged, motivated or even provoked (that happens when someone tells you that you can't do something or someone is getting better results than you and you know you can do better). When one these things happens, it gets you 100% committed to accelerating your success in a particular area of your life.

It could be time to step up your game as it relates to your look, your career, your business or getting your money on point. One of my friends told me she was stepping up her shoe game!

Whatever area it is - stepping it up comes with a strong sense of urgency. You're ready to get moving and get moving NOW. You fully understand that time is passing you by and you need to create change.

If that's you - I want to share three essential moves to help you step up you your game:

Move #1: Clarity
When it's time to elevate your game, you have to be clear on the end goal.

Stepping up your career? Does that mean a new job, a promotion or positioning yourself for a raise.

Stepping up your business? Does that mean better marketing, more networking or adding more sales calls.

Stepping up your shoe game? Does that mean brighter colors, higher heels or fancier flats?

To get the clarity you need, complete this sentence:
I know I would have stepped up my game in this area when I ____________________.

Move #2: Clearing
If you're going to "step it up", you probably have some things you'll need to "set aside".

People who are "stepping it up" become highly focused. They have clearly identified their goal and have made it a priority. As such, they know they have to manage their time - which usually means clearing some things out of the way to make time to invest in getting the results they want.

Maybe you need to clear away TV and internet surfing time so you can study or attend a class.

Maybe you need to clear away some social events that are costing you money you don't really have so you can step up your debt reduction and your savings.

Maybe you need to clear that closet out to make room for your new shoes - giving them to charity or having a sale on Ebay.

To position yourself for clearing, you need to ask yourself this question:
What are the top 3 things I need to clear out of my life to make this happen?

Move #3: Confidence
I had something going with the "C" thing, so I decided to stick with it!

But what is confidence? Well, if we go back to UrbanDictionary.com, it's swagger - which is defined as "to move with confidence, sophistication and to be cool"!

When you are stepping up your game, you should begin to talk, walk and act like it.

Building confidence is about identifying your strengths and playing them up.
Building confidence is about taking action. When you are procrastinating, doubt seeps in.
Building confidence is about preparation. Spend time learning and developing your skills.
Building confidence is about knowing what you want. Identify your own definition of success.

To build your swagger, do the following exercise:
Write down 50 things that are absolutely fabulous about you. Yes - 50! Then, be sure to read them a couple of times a week to remind yourself of how amazing your are.

Adding these three moves will help you get to your goals faster - and get there with confidence!

Author Q&A: Self-Hypnosis and Subliminal Technology

Here with us today is New York Times best selling author, Eldon Taylor, to talk with us about his brand new book, Self-Hypnosis And Subliminal Technology: A How-to Guide for Personal-Empowerment Tools You Can Use Anywhere!

Deb Bailey: You have been called the "Master of the Mind" and "one of the world's foremost experts in preconscious processing." Can you tell us something about your background and how you became interested in hypnosis and subliminal communication?

Eldon Taylor: I think I have always been interested in the power of the mind; early on I read a lot of books on the subject and attended numerous school specializing in hypnosis. However, my interest really took off in the 80s. I was a practicing criminalist at the time and I frequently ran lie-detection examinations. One of the problems in lie-detection tests is in eliminating the inconclusives - some people are so nervous about the procedure itself that, even though they are innocent, they can give readings that would indicate deception. On the other hand, some people are very experienced at taking lie-detection tests and they use counter-measures. I was looking for a way to make the innocent person more relaxed and the guilty person, more tense.

I came across some research regarding law enforcement using subliminal audio programs in a hostage situation, and although I could never verify this, it did give me the incentive to explore this area a whole lot more.  I contacted numerous companies who were producing subliminal self-help programs and I discovered that the whole field was rife with mis-information. Quite frankly, many of these companies simply did not understand the process themselves, and as a result they were producing products with no retrievable subliminal content, poorly designed affirmations, or affirmations presented in such a way that the subconscious mind could only perceive it as being gibberish.

To cut a long story short, I did my own research and created my own subliminal program for use in my lie detection practice. The results were phenomenal! My inconclusives pretty much disappeared and I found myself launching a whole new career. If subliminal communication could be so effective in this scenario, what else could we achieve with it? I created more subliminal audio programs and allowed them to be tested by numerous independent institutions and researchers (such as scientists at Stanford University). The results were all positive.
 

My fascination with hypnosis followed a very similar path. Initially I used hypnosis  for forensic applications, but as I learned more and more about the power of the mind, I started using hypnosis as a tool for personal growth. As my reputation grew, I was called in as an expert court witness with regards to both hypnosis and subliminal communication.

Deb: Hasn't subliminal communication been proven not to work and aren't there laws banning their use anyway?

Eldon: Now that is an interesting question! Why would you need laws banning their use if they have been proven ineffective. And if there were laws banning their use, how come they are being used so much today-in music, entertainment, movies and even during election cycles.

The fact is, there has been a concerted effort, by those who use these methods the most, to prevent laws from being created that would ban the use of subliminals. This is something I experienced first hand when we tried to introduce a bill in Utah to allow subliminals to be used only with informed consent. I was amazed at the number of major advertising companies who sent representatives to fight against this bill.

The closest thing we have today is a codification by the FCC that says subliminals should not be used. However, where the station may lose their broadcast license if they 'knowingly' air material containing subliminal information, there is no other punishment attached to this.  As a result, even when George Bush's campaign was discovered using a subliminal ad against Al Gore, nothing could be done about it-the stations broadcasting the commercial did not 'know' about the subliminal content, and there was no punishment that could be levied against Bush's team for having included it.  What is more interesting here is, subsequent research done at Adelphi University clearly showed that this ad would have influenced the voter!

If you do a quick search at YouTube for  subliminal ads, you will be amazed at how many there are and how frequently they are still being used. By turning the whole field into a joke, the mind manipulators are allowed to carry on using these techniques unhindered!


Deb:  Isn't hypnosis just a sci-fi myth - or can a person really be made to do someone else's bidding?

Eldon: No - hypnosis is very real and has been researched extensively by the U.S. government.  By slowing down brain wave activity it is possible to access memories you thought you had forgotten, change your feelings about an experience and prime yourself to act in a way of your choosing at some future event.

The fact is, everyone (except the very young and those with some cognitive deficiency that does not allow them to concentrate) can be hypnotized.  However, you cannot be made to do something that would go against your own inner standards/values. If you were pushed in this way during a hypnosis session, you would simply come out of hypnosis!


Deb:  How are hypnosis and subliminal communication related and why do you think they are vital tools for self-improvement?

Eldon: Both hypnosis and subliminal technology deal directly with the subconscious mind, which is the repository of all of your experiences, feelings and reaction.  These subconscious beliefs play a definite role in your ability to achieve goals. For example, if you were brought up to believe that "money is the source of all evil," and then you had the conscious desire to be rich and successful, this subconscious belief would keep finding ways to sabotage you.  Or maybe your outer goal is to lose weight, but somewhere in your past you were hurt by a significant other, so you put on extra weight in order to avoid attracting unwanted attention. Until you deal with some of these subconscious beliefs, until your inner goals are in line with your outer goals, success will always elude you.

Hypnosis works by slowing down brainwave activity, which makes it easier to recover memories, to access your own subconscious beliefs and also to reprogram yourself for success.  Subliminal communication works by bypassing conscious awareness and all of its defense mechanisms.  It changes your self-talk (the beliefs held by your subconscious) from the inside out. As your self-talk changes, so does your life experience. It's important to note, the current data suggests that approx. 90% of your choices are actually made by the nucleus accumbens, the area of the brain that is in our subconscious domain.


Deb: Can you share some of the greatest success stories using hypnosis?

Eldon: I think my most amazing experience with hypnosis was when I was doing this for a client who needed to learn pain management. One day, after a normal session, she suddenly began to channel a Chinese entity! It seems he had some information specifically for me, but I had to send the audio recording off to the language department at the University of Utah before I could learn what he was saying!

However, that really is an anomalous kind of event! I think, not counting that one, I have used forensic hypnosis to assist a victim in providing identifying information after he was robbed at gun-point. Out of hypnosis, all he could remember was the size of the gun, but under hypnosis he even managed to remember the car and a partial license plate. I have also used hypnosis for child birth, when a friend of mine asked for help as she wanted to minimize the use of drugs for pain.

Deb: What else can you use hypnosis for?

Eldon: There are so many areas in which hypnosis has been used successfully. These range from weight loss and smoking, to pain management and stress, from enhancing sports performance to enhancing learning abilities, from self-healing to sex enhancement, and from meditation to past life regression.


Deb: Do you have any amazing success stories as a result of using subliminal communication?

Eldon: All success stories are amazing, simply because they have improved the quality of that person's life. However, some of the most fascinating stories would have to include the individual who credited using a program for Prosperity and Abundance for finding a winning lottery ticket, or the person who trades on the stock exchange and always does better when working with this same program.  And I have received a number of letters from people in remission from cancer, who attribute this to using the Spiritual Healing for Cancer program that I offer.

Deb: What else can you use subliminal programs for?

Eldon: Again, this list is as wide as those for hypnosis. Basically, if you do not believe you can succeed, then this belief will prevent you from becoming the best that you can be.  The best part of my job is the many letters I receive, on a daily basis, telling me how much their lives have improved using my InnerTalk subliminal programs. I love hearing from the mother who is happy that her child is no longer afraid of school, or the student who has just passed their law school Bar exam, or the Olympic athlete who just won a medal. I have received letters regarding relationship, health, spirituality, better life, business and addictions. All of these are areas users have reported improvements in, which have resulted in an increased quality of life.


Deb:  You say in your book that self-hypnosis and subliminal communication are the best self-help tools. Do you use them yourself, and if so, how?

Eldon: Yes, I use them myself virtually every day! The subliminal programs are easy to use as they can just be played in the background as you go about your day. Sometimes I will be working on something specific, say avoiding catching a cold that is going around. In this instance I use the Accelerated Healing and Well-Being program. When I am not working on something specific, then I like to keep myself 'tuned up' and will use a program such as Optimism Plus or Quantum Younging. I actually have a number of programs that I have put on my i-phone, which of course has built in speakers. This way I can keep my phone in its holster and benefit from the subliminal programs whatever I am doing.

I generally use self-hypnosis twice a day. I try to take time out to meditate every day and self-hypnosis can really speed this process up. I can achieve in a 10 minute session what would take me half an hour if I did not use self-hypnosis. I also use self-hypnosis last thing at night. It is a great way to go to sleep and also for keeping myself focused on my goals while I am sleeping.


Deb: In your book, Self-Hypnosis and Subliminal Technology, you provide step-by-step instructions for learning self-hypnosis and for creating your own subliminal program.  Is this really all you need, or is this just an introduction to more courses and classes the reader needs to go through before they can achieve any practical benefits?

Eldon: No, I have tried to make the course as complete as possible. I explain the theory behind both processes, provide detailed information on how to do it all yourself, and give you examples of how you can take these techniques even further. The book comes with an audio CD so that you can experience all of this as well, so there can be no confusion about whether or not you are doing it correctly. Once you have been through this course, you will know:

  • The 5 different steps for putting yourself into a hypnotic state;
  • Several visualization, induction and deepening techniques, including deepening to eliminate distraction;
  • All about post-hypnotic cues, affirmations, self-suggestions, how to uncover information and find the positive in negative experiences;

How To Write A Short Report That Makes You Money

Learning how to write a short report can be one of the best and fastest ways to turbocharge your online business.

It can also be a great way of creating a powerful online asset for you as well — that being a large and responsive email marketing list.

How does this occur?  One short report can be used in at least two different ways. Firstly, you can use it as a free giveaway, which helps you to build your subscriber list.  Secondly, it can be posted online in different document and ebook directories to help drive traffic to your site. This second strategy also provides you one-way backlinks from high traffic sites, which search engines love to see in order to help them determine how highly to rank your site in search engine results.

There are some basic things that will be key to your success and by following these general guidelines you will be able to create reports that people will enjoy reading, want to share with others and will help you to increase your online income.

Here are 7 tips on how to write a short report from scratch:

1. Value.  You must provide as much value to your readers as possible. I define value as something that provides informative, useful or helpful information that helps readers solve a pressing problem. For example, if you help someone look, feel or perform/act better, then they most likely would agree that they have received some value from your short report.

2.  Preparation.  One of the biggest factors in how well a project will turn out is how well prepared you were to do a good job. This process will involve different things for different people and for different writing topics. However, here are a few basic steps that you can start with on almost any project:

a. Market Research:  You need to first find out what topics are people interested in. One way to do this is to visit sites that sell lots of things, like affiliate sites, to discover what’s hot or what is in demand. For example, an upcoming holiday or special event might be something that’s hot, but information about how to improve your finances, health or relationship is something that is always in demand. Choose a topic that really resonates with you. You will always do better when writing about what interests you the most from the choices available to you than you would by just picking one at random.

b.  Gather your resources:  Now it’s time to discover information related to your topic. To ensure that that you are providing as much value as possible, include as many other additional references or resources as possible. These additional resources might include things such as personal experiences, interviews with other experts or other factual data from creditable sources. Once you have collected enough information to over-deliver on your report, you are now ready to create an outline.

4.  Presentation.  This is where you will need to set up your report format, which include the following components:

    An introduction: explain why someone interested in this topic should read your report
    The body:  information broken down into several, logical compartments.  You’ll also want to include compelling graphics or tables that help explain or illustrate the information in your short report so that it is easier for your readers to quickly understand and absorb the information.
    Summary:  summarize what was covered in the report
    Closing statement:  your conclusion or call to action.  Having a powerful call to action is the primary way that this report is going to build your business.  Requesting that your readers visit a particular site to buy a product or service will be what drives the reader back to your web site.

5.  Proofreading.  This is another very important step that can really have a big impact on how well your report is received. Whenever possible, have someone else proofread your work for you. If this is not an option, then the next best thing is to take a short break and then proofread it yourself when you are well rested and refreshed. And, always run a spell check after each update.

6.  Marketing and promoting. 
Now it’s time to get your value-packed report out there and share it with the world. There are a variety of different ways that you can do this. For example, use social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin to promote it.  You can also use it as a free opt-in report on your site to build your list or as free high quality content that you send to your list and ask them to share it with others.  Another option is to upload and sell it on Amazon to get passive income that way.

7.  Rebranding opportunities. You can also offer this report to your list and permit your list members to give it away free of charge to their lists. The CEO Head-to-Toe Body Rejuvenation Weekend

Wouldn't it be wonderful to have the energy that you had when you graduated from college? Imagine your body feeling light and agile, your mind clear and focused, even after a meeting with your toughest client. This is how you feel right after a body and soul detox. Cleaning up your body from impurities allows your digestive system to rest from all of the work it must do to break-down the food, coffee, soda, wine and champagne (okay...I prefer champagne) that you eat and drink. Stopping the world for a weekend from your laptop, cellular telephone and the client campaign that you're working on is a requirement in order for you to continue to be the radiant, healthy genius that you are. Although traveling to learn a new way to eat, have a massage, facial, or try out a hot new workout seems indulgent, but make no mistake, self-care is an important part of living a good healthy life.

Embarking on a weekend body and soul detox does not need to be an arduous experience. Grab your journal, swimsuit, your BFF and head to a spa that has a three, or four-day detox retreat.  This is the perfect time of the year to pull-back and get back on track with a healthy eating plan, as well as a new fitness routine (at least until Thanksgiving!), so that you'll be ready to face the holiday season with much energy, and great joy.

Accessing Your Authentic Message – Part 1

There is nothing more powerful than accessing your authentic message and being the powerful Presence you were born to be.  Yet, so often, it’s easy to get busy with tactics, strategies, blueprints, and formulas for “making something happen” in your life or business – and you can miss the ever-important journey of digging deep enough to know what exactly it is you are here to share!

I can say this because it happened to me.  I got so wrapped up in doing what I “thought” I was supposed to do that I had missed what I was BORN to do.  There’s a big distinction there. 

Now, don’t get me wrong… every one of my past experiences has served me because it got me to where I am today.  Today I live more in a state of bliss than I ever have before and I wouldn’t change a thing about how I got here.

However, if I can help you discover your authentic truth without experiencing the loss, pain and challenges I went through… then I’m honored to do what I can to help.

So, here is the first thing I want to share in this series.  It’s something I’ve practiced personally (and with clients) to access the most powerful, authentic message that lives inside of you already:

Open Yourself to the Power and Presence of Love

There is no more powerful vibration than that of love.  Opening yourself to the power of self-love and the loving presence of others can help you access places inside of you that have been previously untouched. 

I’ve experienced this over and over again with my clients.  Since 1997 when I began coaching, the biggest breakthroughs I’ve seen have all been possible because of love - it’s been amazing to hold the unconditionally loving space for a client’s life to change in an instant.  

I understand opening your heart can feel scary at times.  Sometimes it can even feel impossible, especially if you’ve ever been ridiculed or criticized for your thoughts, beliefs or ideas.  It seem easier to just keep plugging along… rather than do the work to heal those hurts, open your heart and BE the magnificent FULL expression of who you’re here to be.

However, keeping your heart protected makes accessing your true gifts – your authentic message - nearly impossible. 

So, I want to share some ways to deepen your experience of self-love.  It’s the most powerful love of all and you can take a step on this journey right now.  

Begin by noticing how you treat yourself and how you talk to yourself.  If you’re beating yourself up, or judging something you did or didn’t do – there is no room for love.  And, there’s no access to the deeper parts of yourself where your authentic message lies. 

When self-love isn’t flowing, it’s very difficult for anything else to flow.  The conversations in your head, the regrets, blame, shame, etc. all keep you from having access to the gifts that lie within.

To make a shift in this area, practice being gentle with yourself.  It may be that you stop a self-deprecating thought and replace it with a deeper, more loving truth about yourself.  Perhaps you can practice loving yourself by being honest about how you feel, or saying “no” to those things that don’t serve you.  Maybe you can let go of comparison or celebrate YOUR unique gifts.

There are a gazillion ways to practice self-love; just choose one to get started.  And as you do, notice that the more you love yourself, the more easily you’ll access the truths in your own heart, your authentic message.

The messages and gifts you are here to share through your work - and through your presence in the world - are already inside.

Imagine what would be possible and how you would show up in the world if every thought you had about yourself came from love.  Woweee!  You would light up the world.

This depth of authentic expression of your message is absolutely possible. It’s your birthright.  So, I encourage you to take this article to heart and open yourself to the power of self-love today.  It can change everything.

Why it's Important to Feel Uncomfortable!

I love this statement because it’s all about stretching yourself out of your comfort zone and being comfortable with it on a continuous basis. In order to grow and learn, you must be willing to take risks and plow through your fears. Moving forward and doing new things can be scary, but if you don’t do it you will be left feeling stagnant and likely with a lot of regret.

So “getting comfortable with being uncomfortable”, has become my motto. After doing so many new and “scary” things over the past few years and continuing to do so, I’m now good with feeling the fear and doing it anyway. I almost come to expect it when I'm doing something new! It always subsides and then I’m on to the next thing :)

Another point that comes to mind is flexibility. I am a true believer that setting goals is important for creating your ideal lifestyle. Without taking action, you won’t move forward. However, staying flexible within that process is equally important. If you are familiar with the law of attraction, then you understand that we’re not supposed to worry about the “how” portion of it coming to fruition.

Setting the intention, trusting it will happen and letting go of attachment (control of the how), and then taking inspired action is how it works. You still need to take action, but the difference between having such a tight grip on figuring things out and inspired action, is that you “let go and let it flow”! Meaning you trust it will happen and then release the idea. From there you pay attention to any people, circumstances, events and ideas that you have that will enable you to achieve your goals :)

It can be scary to let go of control. Just having faith that it will work out AND being okay with that is a huge part of it actually happening. If you are so focused on “how” to make it happen, the opportunity to make it happen can pass you right by. Being flexible and having that “go with the flow” attitude can feel uncomfortable at first. This too shall pass and will give you the practice and experience to tackle the next goal with more ease and confidence :)

Is Video Marketing Part of Your Online Marketing Strategy yet?

Until recently, it wasn’t part of mine, either.  Why?  Because what I had seen of video involved someone talking directly into a webcam. As someone who hates having her picture taken, this type of video marketing certainly did not appeal to me.  However, I’m starting to change my mind about this marketing strategy.

Look at these stats I recently uncovered about video:

    60 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute each day
    Cisco (an IT company) predicts that by 2015 at least 90% of all Internet traffic will be video
    84% of the US population is watching videos
    Of that 84%, the average person watches 4 videos a day
    People are more likely to watch longer videos on non-desktop devices.
    People who watch online videos are more valuable to business than individuals who don’t.

Kinda makes you sit up and think, doesn’t it?  As someone who used to hate watching videos, I’m finding myself watching more and more of them online than before. Moreover, what I’m seeing is that the ability to produce videos is much easier than just a few years ago, and the cost of producing a video has dropped dramatically.

If you want to incorporate video marketing into your online marketing strategy, here are the 5 best types of video to promote your online business:

1. Screen capture videos:  This is one of my favorite video types, as it involves capturing your computer screen, as you would do for software demos and how-to videos.  You need to use screen capture software of some sort, and the software captures your desktop as you move from place to place on your screen.

2. Slidecast Videos:  This involves taking a Powerpoint/Keynote presentation and filming it with screen capture software and combining that with an audio voice-over.  The format in this kind of video isn’t always pretty, but it’s quite effective.  The combination of text and voice-over narration can be hypnotizing.  And, much to my disbelief, I discovered that the highest-converting videos of this type consist of someone reading black text on a white background.

3. Sock puppet/doodle/papercut/animated/humorous videos:  With the advent of Fiverr.com, you can now write a short script and have any number of video creations completed using sock puppets, doodle videos (drawing your story line), papercut videos (where images are cut of paper and moved around a board with a finger), and almost anything else you can imagine.  I recently had a video completed of a woman reciting my script while dressed as a green pea pod as my unique entry into a scholarship contest.  It helped me win the contest!

4.  Photo videos with music:  With this type of video, you assemble a number of photos or images and then use a video service to put them together with some special effects to jazz up the images a bit. Typically the video service will offer a large library of rights-free music you can add to the background, or, if you like, you can add a scripted voiceover.

5. Talking head videos:  Surprisingly enough, these kinds of videos are not the best type of video to post on Youtube, even though they are very common.  The only exception to this is if you’re a recognized name or brand, like Martha Stewart or Donald Trump.  However, if you decide to go this route anyway, be sure that your logo, Facebook URL and Twitter URL are displayed in the background at the top of the screen, or you add in this info as text afterward.

Here’s an important video marketing tip:  Your video should ideally be no more than 3 minutes in length.  Many of mine are 60-90 seconds.  If you are creating a review or how-to video, keep it under 10 minutes, or better yet, break it down into shorter videos.

The age of video has arrived, and creating videos is easier than ever. Decide on the kind of video you want to use to promote your business and jump headfirst into video marketing today!

Protecting your Business: Why you Need Small Business Insurance Coverage

Imagine this tragic scenario: You've finally earned enough financial-backing to promote your products/services fully and can now even afford to rent a small office space to house your merchandise and your small handful of employees. 
A few months pass by smoothly, but with all of the stresses of taking inventory, creating invoices, and dealing with manufactures and customers you forget one small but oh-so-important thing: business insurance. Not too shortly after you come to see windows shattered and your office stripped clean. Or worse—a customer calls to file a complaint that your product actually injured him or her. Soon you've lost everything you've worked hard for and your life savings due to a law suit—or at the very least you're short changed thousands of dollars' worth of merchandise and supplies due to theft.
Business insurance is something that's needed at the immediate preliminary stages of any startup or entrepreneurial endeavor, yet its importance it all too often downplayed or overlooked until it's too late.  Business insurance, in short, can help protect everything you've worked so hard to launch—your business.  
 It can help compensate loss if a robbery occurs or if a weather storm (or fire) destroys your products/office building. It can also help cover the expenses of a legal team or legal fees if an employee or customer decides to sue your company due to injury or negligence. If an employee or customer gets injured on the job, it can also help cover medical expenses. Lastly, business insurance can help cover the costs of run down equipment that your business relies on.
That said, every entrepreneur needs small business insurance. But that doesn't mean every small business owner needs the same type of business insurance. It all really depends on what you're selling and the degree of risk that your products and or services possess.  Unfortunately, there isn't one small business insurance policy that you can purchase in one neat little package. You will most likely have to tailor the protection your specific business needs by combining several different policies. To learn about the most common types, continue reading below.
General Liability. This is the most basic type of insurance policy. It will help cover the medical costs associated with customers or employees who may injure themselves. It can also help cover some legal fees.
Product Liability Insurance.  This policy comes in handy if your product causes bodily harm to a customer or his or her property. The amount you will need to purchase should reflect any potential hazard(s) your product or services may possess. For example, a small business owner who sells toys for toddlers will need more product liability insurance than a small business owner who sells screen T's.
Professional Liability Insurance. This policy on the other hand helps protect you if your services injure a customer due to malpractice or negligence.
Property Insurance. Helps protect you if your building, equipment and or inventory are damaged due to a weather storm or fire. Also protects you if a robbery occurs. If you work within your home, you still may need to purchase property insurance since your homeowner's insurance may not cover the added business-related merchandise. 
Business Income Coverage. Lastly, this policy helps protect your income when you must temporarily suspend operations.

 Deborah Bailey: What prompted you to write your book?

Stuart Diamond: Many of the people I’ve taught (30,000 in 50 countries) said I should help others, including women, find better ways achieve their goals in work and life through the application of the new models of human interaction that I developed over the past 25 years, first at Harvard, then at Wharton Business School, and also as an entrepreneur in several industries, including technology, health care, agriculture, aviation, energy and finance.


DB: What's your book about?

SD: Getting More: How To Negotiate To Succeed in Work and Life shows that the conventional tools of negotiation, of dealing with others, don’t work very well: power, leverage, logic, win-win, threats, walking out, etc. Instead, finding and valuing the perceptions of the other party creates four times as much value – twice as many agreements, and each agreement is worth twice as much. Finding the pictures in their heads gives you a better starting point. Valuing the pictures in their heads gets others to more likely meet your goals. It is the opposite of the way most people deal with others today – from government to business to personal life.


DB: Who do you think will benefit from reading your book?

SD: Anyone who deals with other people: from country presidents to administrative assistants, women, men, children, workers, family members, shoppers, travelers, and so forth. The model comprises a different and better way of dealing with others. This month I am giving a keynote speech at the World Economic Forum in Korea on Women and Leadership: what makes great leaders.


DB: What do you feel makes your book different from others in your category?

SD: It deals with perceptions and emotions, first and foremost. Everything else is unimportant unless and until you make the human connection. Your logical arguments don’t matter. Your facts are irrelevant. Your “win-win” spreadsheets will fall on deaf ears. It is true whether it’s a world leader or my kid who wants an ice cream cone.

In addition to these collaborative tools, however, Getting More shows people how to deal with hard bargainers without getting stressed out. Simply find and use the other party’s own standards, their own criteria for making decisions – whether it’s a missed service appointment or how salary increases are distributed. People hate to contradict themselves. If you give people a choice between being consistent with their standards and contradicting their standards, people will most often be consistent. You must not make yourself the issue in doing this. You need to use tact and a nice tone. But it will make your world more fair to you.


DB: What do you want readers to come away with?

SD: A specific set of tools and a process to use in any situation: from getting a job to getting the child to do her or his homework.


DB: What's the best advice that you could give to woman entrepreneurs?

SD: First make a human connection. It’s more important than your business model, marketing, research, website, and anything else you’ve come up with. People tend to buy products and invest in others whom they trust, with whom they feel comfortable, with whom they make a connection. That means, if someone criticizes you, find out why. Find out the pictures in their heads. You will get information and you will value them in the process, so that they will be more comfortable with you. If you make a human connection with someone, they are almost six times more likely to give you want you want – 90% versus 16%. And it can be a connection on anything.


DB: What inspires you to do the work you do?

SD: To see the positive results in the lives of others, as well as my own. Google now uses this model to train its employees worldwide. Special Operations, the military elite, is using it in Afghanistan to save lives by making connections with local tribespeople. Women at Microsoft and elsewhere are using it to change the power balance in a male-dominated world. My 10-year-old son behaves.

Entertainment Entrepreneur Kim Zaninovich on Women Entrepreneurs Radio™

Kim Zaninovich grew up in San Pedro, CA, with a passion for independent film, dating back to summers as a kid, when she would walk back and forth to the local store to rent VHS tapes of obscure movies. When she was old enough to drive, she would go to a tiny art-house theatre near her house in Hermosa Beach.

It was one day while attending Boston University that she went to see a presentation of the making of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast," created by a fellow college student. Zaninovich then realized that was exactly what she would like to do. She spoke to the student and was told about an internship. Shortly afterwards, she was hired as a marketing intern for Buena Vista Pictures. She worked hard and loved every minute of it.

She worked on every film that three divisions of Buena Vista Pictures generated. Through Hollywood Pictures, Touchstone and Walt Disney Pictures, she helped build awareness around films like "Cool Runnings," "The Nightmare Before Christmas," "Ed Wood," "The Lion King" and "Pocahontas."

She was soon after hired by Fox Searchlight, where she got to work closely with amazing filmmakers like Bernardo Bertolucci, Spike Lee and Al Pacino.

Zaninovich then moved into television, where she worked as a Talent Executive for E! for three years. It was at an agency called Genex that Zaninovich finally let her entrepreneurial spirit shine. It was there that she started Genex Honey, a kind of boutique shop within the company.

Zaninovich helped create their own branding, process, identity and pitch angle, giving her a chance to use the same creativity she now employs in her own company, Crowd Control.

"When you market a film, you reinvent yourself as a thinker and producer," she says. "We were just applying our marketing experience to ourselves."

Not too long after, Zaninovich's real business success story began, when she went off on her own to launch Crowd Control, a successful company that provides representation and staffing services for agencies and brands, finding the best-in-class digital creative talent for projects. 

Zaninovich states, "Crowd Control was definitely born from a need."

The catalyst for the idea of Crowd Control happened from an experience in which Zaninovich was constantly getting calls from friends and colleagues who would ask for referrals for people with specific skill sets for their projects, and with 15 years of production experience behind her, she usually did.

Because she looks at it from a producer's perspective, she's very good at matching talent and budget with project.

"With the nuances that are a part of developing a project in today's creative and technical environment, it's more about being a curator than a recruiter or rep."

Building a Digital Presence with Traditional Marketing Tools

Times change and establishments have to adapt in order to remain relevant. Thanks to technological improvements, consumers are accessing most content digitally now. Raising a company's visibility in this day and age means developing a strong internet presence.

Whether a business chooses to build a website or create a page on a social networking site like Facebook or Twitter, the venture will ultimately fail if customers aren't navigating to the content. Traditional marketing tools, like direct mail and promotional products, can work as Trojan Horses for a company by introducing its digital channels to consumers.

Directing consumers online with mail

Even as a small business owner, it may be surprising to learn that direct mail has one of the highest response rates of all advertising mediums. The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) reported mailers have a response rate of 4.4 percent, while email only earned 0.12 percent.

Yury Wurmser, the DMA's director of marketing and media insights, said in a statement that he believes direct mail's effectiveness is based on its ability to target consumers who are most likely to respond.
A company can leverage these responses to raise its digital presence. Instead of advertising an in-store sale, a company could draw attention to a promotion only available online. This provides live tracking for owners who want to see if their marketing tactic is working because they'll be able to note any correlations between the advertisement and the level of digital business transactions.

Chia Chen, the senior vice president of Digitas' digital department, told Direct Marketing News that this may be the perfect place to implement Quick Response (QR) codes. He notes that the codes work best when printed on something that is in close proximity to the consumer. Businesses can decide how users are directed, such as to a website or a Facebook page, once they scan the image with a smartphone.

Digitizing promotional giveaways

Promotional items are marketing tools that raise a company's visibility in the long run. Consumers are given a branded gift so they are constantly exposed to an advertisement.

The same principles hold true for awareness for a digital presence by adding a different spin to the gifts. For example, promotional pens usually feature a logo and an establishment's name on the outside. Small business owners could include the URL for their new website. The American Marketing Association (AMA) is quick to point out that pens are likely to change hands, so an establishment could be putting its web address in front of more than one set of eyes.
Some companies include different coupons on each month of a promotional wall calendar to encourage customers to come back regularly. QR codes could be added instead, so clients have to use their smartphone to access the discount via a web page.

Consumers might not check a business' website but these giveaways could reinforce the digital presence to increase web traffic.

It can be difficult to establish a firm digital presence. Consumers need to be aware of a business' web content and be able to access it quickly. Otherwise, it could be very easy for the company's website to be lost in the internet.

Here’s what I mean— most women entrepreneurs add up how much income they think they’re likely make for the month, then settle for that as their income.

While this approach sounds logical, in reality it creates an endless cycle of scarcity in your business. And from an energetic standpoint, it places you in a position of being at the mercy of what fate may bring to you, while you’re secretly hoping someone will come along to save you.

Ladies, Prince Charming isn’t going to save you! But knowing how to step into your power as a smart, savvy woman entrepreneur will. Because once you know how to choose your numbers (instead of letting them choose you) you’ll find yourself generating more income, creating more financial security and gaining confidence as a woman entrepreneur.

Which is why I’m giving you these 3 easy steps to implement that will have you choosing how much you make, and creating the kind of security and freedom you desire from your business.

Step #1 Start By Setting A Revenue Goal For The Year That Is Double What You’ve Made Before
The first year I did this my accountant thought I was nuts! I found that setting a goal to double my revenue was exciting and it forced me to take an honest look at how I had been running my business, where I was giving away my power with money and what changes I needed to make in my programs and in my fees.

Step #2 Next, Divide By 12, Then Round Up To Get Your New Monthly Minimum

Money has a fascinating way of rising only to the level you see is possible.

Which means you need to set the stage for your success by determining in advance what amount you will reach each month. And because you attract what you track write down your monthly amount and post it where you can see it daily.

Step #3 Use Your Monthly Minimum To Determine Your Marketing, Launches, List Building And Other Business Building Actions
One of the secret energies of money is that it’s easier to make more than it is to make less. And when you think about it, the energy you invest in answering email, speaking, networking and marketing and growing your business all requires the same amount of time.

So let your bigger number — the number YOU choose — give you the motivation, energy and courage to reach out for bigger partnerships, to raise your fees, to market a little more to fill your programs, to make those potential client Discovery Session calls and more.

You’ll have so much more confidence AND income to show for your efforts!

So What Do You Do If You Don’t Reach Your Number?
