5 Success Tips for Small Businesses

Running a small business can be a grind. What’s that phrase? Entrepreneurs quit their corporate jobs so they no longer have to work 9-5, only to end up working 70-hours a week??!! We definitely don’t want that to be the scenario for you.

Running a successful business does take a lot of intention and time, but what if you can work smarter instead of harder? What if operating from an inspired and empowered place, can short cut the length of time it actually takes to achieve the results you are looking for?

Well, after helping thousands of entrepreneurs around the globe, I have discovered how to just to do that. Here are 5 tips that will help you move into an empowered place, where you will be readily able to see the solutions that are already there for you that will lead you to the results you want to create.

1. Understanding Beliefs.
This is probably the single most important area to start studying if you haven’t already. I always say that being in business for yourself is the best personal development course you can ever take, as you are forced to get out of your own way if you want to be successful.

By getting out of your own way, I mean looking at the belief systems that are controlling your perception, decisions and behaviours. Beliefs are the underlying operating system for how we make our decisions and therefore what we decide to do and not do. They live in our subconscious mind, which does not have the ability to accept nor reject information. Meaning, any time we have an emotional reaction to something, the belief around it is automatically accepted into our subconscious mind unless we are using our conscious mind (which can accept or reject information), to vet what goes in there.

Most people don’t realize they can do this, and what happens if they don’t! So if deep down we don’t feel worthy of success, we will see life and make designs form this lens. We must first get clear on what is in there, and then reprogram it with new empowered beliefs if what’s in there isn’t so great.

2. Be of service first and foremost always in your businesses. When we can accept and trust the universe always has our backs, and is going to show-us more and more people and opportunities to serve, we can relax, have fun and be of complete service. We’re not worrying about money in this place or where the next client is going to come from. The money is secondary. Helping and being of service is primary. Start asking each and everyday who you can help and ask to be directed to them like a magnet.

When you are spending time with a potential client to serve, ask a ton of questions. It’s not about you, it’s about them. How you can serve and help them in that moment? You won’t know unless you ask questions and focus on them. You might discover that it’s not your product or service that will help them or make the most sense at that time. That’s okay and you have to be willing to let them go. This is where standing in faith that you are always going to be guided to be shown more people to help is imperative. You are taken care of, if you let yourself be.

3. Honour and love yourself enough to receive. What you put out you will get back more of. If you’re not feeling good enough deep down, you will see more in your life to not feel good about; i.e. debt, overwhelm, stress, etc. If you’re feeling good and relaxed, you will see more in your life to feel good about, i.e. results, awesome clients, time with family, etc. Note, I said “see” – this is all about your perception. It’s about how you’re “seeing” what is happening on your life. Like attracts like, so if you feel good you will notice more of the good, which leads to seeing empowered solutions and all of your next steps.

The best way to feel good is to make time for self-care. Self-care is really about appreciating yourself enough to do the things you love that bring you peace. What is that for you? Schedule it in every day. It also enables you the space to hear / listen / receive the guidance that is there for you. Take the time to tune in.

4. Follow-up. It’s important to have an empowered follow-up system in place for after you have connected with people. You may have a different plan depending on how you connect with people, i.e. via phone, email, meetings, live events, etc. It may also differ based on how you know them and whether or not you have actually talked to them already (and how many times). Map out a complete follow-up system, so that you can funnel people through this plan and assign dates for follow-up on your calendar. I see business owners fall short in this area all of the time.

Follow-up is everything. I recently reconnected with someone who I have been checking-in with for two years! This led to coaching their private group and additional private coaching with people in their company. This all came about because I genuinely cared about this person and was being of complete service and continued to follow-up.

5. SAY YESS!!!
Take massive action in your business by saying yes to all of the inspired opportunities that come your way. It will feel scary and is like exercising a new muscle, but so worth it in the end. Once you say yes, the universe can show you the way to make it happen – each and every step along the way, and not a second before hand. The yes has to come first. DECISION FIRST. This is where trusting in something bigger then yourself, and knowing it has your back is of utmost importance! Practice this often. It will help to think back to a time when you have said yes to something, and made it happen no matter what. It’s this type of tenacity and perseverance that will enable you to keep seeing empowered solutions and next steps.

Shopping Tips for Women Short on Time

I don't have enough time, is probably the number one complaint of businesswomen everywhere!

Beating the clock is always a huge challenge. We all want to look good, but who has the time or energy to go the mall, or even peruse the internet to find something wearable? Not when there's a slew of emails to respond to, kids to pick up from school, and tired feet to put up after a busy day of work!

Shopping can seem like an additional chore, but luckily it doesn't have to be!

These time saving tips will help you streamline your shopping experience, so you can look good and spend more time doing the things you love!

1.     E-mail subscriptions

A super simple thing you can do right now is subscribe for your favorite stores' e-mail list. This will keep you up-to-date on new collections coming out, and let you know of any upcoming sales or promotions. Many times stores will include specific items you can shop for directly via e-mail. Shopping directly from your inbox? Hey now, that sounds easy doesn't it?!
2.     Online subscription boxes

There are several companies out there such as, Stitch Fix and Trunk Club, that send a box of clothing directly to your door! These companies start out by having you complete a style questionnaire. They will then gauge your needs, sizes, and budget. Afterwards, you'll work with a digital stylist who will find the right pieces specifically for your body and lifestyle. They will send you a box of these carefully selected times. You keep what you want, and send the items you don't care for back! What's best about this option is that it is all done from the comfort of your own home. You can't beat that!

3.     Shopstyle.com
This is one of my favorite online tools. Instead of combing through a mess of different websites, shopstyle.com organizes items from hundreds of stores in one easy-to-shop site. Their search filters are a fantastic feature. Say you are looking for a a cocktail dress, then you could filter by size, color, brand, and price to bring up the specific items that suit your criteria. Voila! No more endless scrolling!
4.     In-store Stylist

This option tends to be a bit intimidating for some, but it doesn't have to be! In-store Stylists are a perfect option if you want to have specific items pulled from the shelf for when you arrive to the store. Most major department stores have this service available. Make an appointment, and let the stylist know what you are looking for: (sizing, price point etc). They will select items that suit your needs. All you have to do is show up and try the items on for size! You won't have to do any actual shopping! How convenient is that?

5.     List it!

We all love a good list right?! The most time-consuming part of shopping is not knowing what we are looking for, or where to find it.  Spending hours wandering about aimlessly from store to store thinking we will "know it when we see it," leaves many of us feeling frustrated and exhausted. Before you hit the streets, why don't you make a list detailing exactly what you need? Just like writing out a grocery list, writing out a shopping list can save time in the long run! 

Shopping isn't always a blast, but it shouldn't have to be another stressful chore. Utilize a few of these tips, and you will be well on your way to painless shopping in no time!

Deb Bailey: Welcome to the blog, Imelda. Why did you come up with enstigate for entrepreneurs?

Imelda Arcilla: Great to be here, Deb. We believe it's entrepreneurs that are part of what's changing the game as far as in innovations, creating valuable products and service to the world while taking your financial vision and destiny into your own hands.

We're passionate entrepreneurs helping entrepreneurs because we understand the challenges. We laugh about how we've hit every branch on the way down to really understanding how this all works. So, we have the hard-earned wisdom to share with others so they don't fall into the common traps.

Ultimately, we're not just helping them succeed in business but what the success of that business means overall. It's supporting their dreams and freedom to do more things that they love, enjoy and contribute to. There's always a bigger vision that pulls us and in this way, it's not a constant work by pushing, but a pull by something greater than us.

So, we're connecting the dots for entrepreneurs to make it easier for them to find the capital they need. Because the world of financing can be quite overwhelming and tricky especially if you're just starting out or have been in business but don't know about finding money to expand.

There are many reasons businesses fail, funding shouldn't be one of them. That's the easy part is our motto.

I also work in the transformation and mindset area with entrepreneurs and what I realized was they just needed some extra money to either jump start their business or need capital to grow into the next level, but didn't know how to go about it. So, they'd spin their wheels and either get burned out or quit. When all they needed was some guidance and cash to get them to the next stage.

Deb: Why are you also targeting funding for females? 

Imelda: Women business owners are over 35 percent and growing generating over 1.5 trillion in sales. The crazy thing is women only receive 7 percent of venture capital or investment money and loans are usually at least 15 percent lower than men with higher interest rates.

Needless to say, women's ability to get capital is disproportionate to their rising contribution. Even though there are women entrepreneurs there aren't as many high profiles as men. We have to change that if we want to see more high profile women entrepreneurs out in the world to aspire to. Because it's very much possible and we are ready for it.

When that becomes a reality, women are seen just as competent if not more than the men. And hopefully the pay wage can also be equalized. The Finance world has been men driven and a dominated sector so it's difficult for women to impact, unless we make a concerted effort to break through the old establishments. I believe we poised for that.

Deb: What advice would you give to women entrepreneurs who are just starting out in researching for funding? 

Imelda: Do your due diligence.

There are traditional bank lenders, venture capitalists, angel investors and alternative or creative loans. Crowd funding is becoming more popular but it can be a hit or miss with a lot of time invested in it. Weigh out the pros and cons before you make a decision.

The traditional bank route have stricter guidelines and qualifications, vc's again only fund a very small fraction of women, and angel investors want equity and can persuade the original intention of the entrepreneur's creative vision.

And this is where we come in as alternative and creative loans. The qualifications for these loans tend to be more lenient. We offer different products depending on what is needed and where the business wants to go. So not all products are right for each unique entrepreneur and business. That's a big one because if you get talked into something that isn't right you, you could end up paying for it down the road. It happens all the time. So, you have to trust the person or lender you're relying on to get you the best loan product for your business at the time. Do your due diligence is very much an important mantra.

We have an Angel loan that is different than the Angel Investor where we give you the loan and we don't require equity and we don't interfere with the vision of the company. Now that's a real Angel!

Deb: What are the "lessons learned" that you'd like to share?

Imelda: hen we meet our challenges, and overcome them a new level of playing field opens for us which has its own set of challenges. Again, you'll overcome to conquer and reach a new plateau. So, challenges are like obstacle courses each problem is meant to elevate or expand you.

Deb: Who are your ideal clients?

Imelda: My ideal clients are women at any stage of their business. Whether they're ready to start and they need help with capital. Or have been in business for a little while and ready to expand or have been moderately successful but want to take it to the next level.

The funding is for anything from marketing, materials, equipment, revamp your brand, hire a success coach or assistant, technology to enhance your business, bridge the slow times, accelerate your six figure and up aspirations or whatever you need it for. Having money available can jump start not only your business but create momentum especially when you find your business in a lull. It supports your ideas, creativity or innovation with a way to bring them to the people who want it.

Deb: What inspires you to do this work?

Imelda: I think that money, financing and getting funding can be very complex and women don't feel comfortable or confident in this area. They'll try the traditional route that's very limited in their offering. The current state of the finance world has been very complex, convoluted and primarily have been for a very few. So, it's no wonder it has this stigma. But money and getting funding doesn't have to be so complicated there's a simpler way to all this we just have to create it and then make it available to ease the challenges already inherent in being a female entrepreneur. 

We are innovating the old template of financing and bridging it through creativity and soul mission. It connects to the human side where the financing world traditionally has a disconnect.

People are willing to do the work, they just need the basics building blocks and money is part of that reality architect.

Deb: What's your vision for your business?

Imelda: My ultimate vision for enstigate* entrepreneurs as it pertains to female funding is that we contribute to changing the game for women entrepreneurs in how they get capital and allow it to be more accessible for them so they can create their dream business and life without struggling or eventually quitting. Their rising number and huge contribution to the economy should drive the market for more lenders and investors to participate. If you have a product or service that enhances life or contributes to humanity thriving that deserves to be successful!

Deb: What advice would you give to women entrepreneurs who are just starting out?

Imelda: Make sure your why also serves the larger good somehow. There is grace in that.

Deb: That's excellent advice. What do you wish you could tell your younger self? 

Imelda: Trust yourself more and your intuition.

New Mother’s Day Survey Sheds Light on Reality of Today’s “Mompreneur”

Mom entrepreneurs typically start their businesses after their child hits school age, overwhelmingly serve as the household’s primary caregiver, regularly put in a “second shift” after kids go to bed, and are more likely to sacrifice working out and socializing with friends over missed family time. They are also significantly less likely to raise outside funding for their venture than male parent entrepreneurs, but often have the support of a network of fellow entrepreneurs.

These are just a few of the topline findings revealed in a recent survey by online graphic design marketplace 99designs that polled more than 1,290 male and female business owners with at least one child under 18 from US, Europe and Australia about various aspects of their business and personal lives.

10 Powerful Tips to Write and Sell Your First eBook

It takes time to write an e-book. Even if you are done writing one, you should still keep working in order to promote the e-book and sell as many copies as possible. Take note that no matter how great the book is, there are a lot of other people who write quality e-books.

The goal is to stand out and attract people to get what you offer. It only means that there must be something unique about the e-book that people could not get elsewhere. The book should be worth the pay. Otherwise, they won’t trust you again should you publish an e-book in the future.

Take time to inform people about your e-book. Create a social media account in various platforms. Tell everyone that you have an upcoming e-book. Make pre-order possible so you have guaranteed buyers even before the release.

You should also provide free copies through raffle draws and other means. Create noise as much as possible. This is how you ensure that people know about your e-book. Take note that there are a lot of e-book writers that don’t have quality write-ups. They are just so great when it comes to advertising. This is why they have created popular e-books.
